eco-nomics: disrupted:
our atlas of pro-sperity
The thing about economics is this:
It stems from the Greek, "oikos", for home, hearth, surroundings, environment.
Not from anything to do with money. Fancy that. So ...
eco-logy: knowledge of the home, hearth, surroundings, environment
eco-nomics: management of the home, hearth, surroundings, environment
I don't think you can be an eco-nomist, therefore, without being an eco-logist.
Because how can you "manage" what you don't first "know"?
So given how creative we all are - what would an Atlas of All Things Pro-Sperity look like?
A basket of all the brilliant things we could do to address inclusive growth
(which I like to think of as the growth of inclusion ;)) , well-being,
with socially just, plantetarily safe, economic models?
And how can we use these ideas and examples
to create the home and place we want?
We can start by getting them on the same bit of paper (virtually speaking) -
this begins by us seeing how much extraordinary stuff
we're doing already: if you are doing something, add it here. Now! :)

And in the meantime - check out these fabulous hearts and minds
who are poking our heads to think differently about eco-nomics...

our pro-sperity colleagues:
examples of alternative economic models in action
1 making wellbeing a nation's purpose - COSTA RICA
2 iron and earth worker led initiative: tar sands to renewables in alberta, canada
3 buying on purpose: using anchor institutions to drive prosperity through procurement - The Preston Model
Below is a document shared with Cafe Disruptif from Stephen Horscroft, Cornwall Council - on exactly the issue of the Preston model. Have a read. Our next mission is to get a bunch of officers and community economists (us!) up there to find out exactly what they're doing ...

Totnes Reconomy Project Local Entrepreneurs Forum
The Local Entrepreneur Forum is a powerful catalyst for a vibrant, bustling, and abundant new economy in the Totnes area. Every year, we bring entrepreneurs, investors, and other change makers together to learn from each other, form new relationships, and begin enterprising collaborations. Social, sustainable, regenerative, resilient, innovative – new enterprises creating meaningful livelihoods and contributing to the community in positive ways. This is the beating heart of what we call ‘community supported entrepreneurism’.
Everyone has a stake in their local economy and everyone can be an investor, too. Entrepreneurs need all kinds of support. Financial capital is important, but so are other forms of support, from expert mentoring to child care. Entrepreneurs supported by the community do better. The economy does better, too. It’s part of what make this place a nice place to live and raise a family. Find out more here: https://reconomycentre.org/home/lef
